Hi! My name is Joe (he, his.)
I’m a hardcore millennial with a soft spot for plants and the admin of Plants of Buffalo.
I purchased my first plant when I was in college with absolutely zero-percent no-how. After giving it what I thought was love, I discovered that its needs were a little more complex than I thought. It died, but I figure you guessed that. It forced me to figure out the whys and hows of plant care.
My interest in indoor gardening comes from my grandma, who taught me so much about gardening. I’m honoring her by loving plants as she did — so much of why I love plants is because of the nostalgia and memories we made in her garden.
I now care for close to 80 plants (a jungle.) And they’re all thriving – most of them.
Some things I’ve learned while taking care of plants:
1. Patience. We could all use a little more and plants teach us that, whether it’s waiting for a new bloom or fighting off a pest.
2. How to be mindful and observant. It takes some time to learn all of the nuances that come with plant care. I’m still learning, but getting closer and closer to the title of “crazy plant guy”.
3. Nature is cool. If we all cared for the environment like plant lovers care for their plants, girl, we’d be living in a healthier world. Caring for indoor plants might help us re-establish our connection to nature.
4. It’s just plain fun.
The purpose of this account is as simple as my love for plants. It’s to share ways plants enhance our lives even in the smallest ways and to connect our vibrant plant community here in WNY and beyond. I hope to start sharing some of the things I have learned during my plant journey while highlighting your favorite plants and insights for all of us to see and learn from. 💚
